Gentle Immunity Support: What I Recommend When Ascorbic Acid Isn’t an Option

Gentle Immunity Support: What I Recommend When Ascorbic Acid Isn’t an Option

I’m a first-time mom to a 7-month-old—but before that, I spent almost 10 years helping families build better immunity through natural products, food-based strategies, and gut-first wellness practices.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:💡 Synthetic doesn’t always mean better.
Especially when it comes to vitamin C.

💥 Why Ascorbic Acid Doesn’t Work for Everyone

Many standard vitamin C supplements including the ones we sell here use ascorbic acid, a synthetic form that—while effective for some—can cause:

  • Acid reflux or tummy irritation
  • Loose stools
  • Discomfort for kids with sensitive digestion
  • Gut disruption if taken long term

I’ve had so many customers message me saying “I want to build my child’s immunity, but vitamin C triggers GERD symptoms." This is why I often recommend gentler, natural alternatives.

🍊 Amla & Acerola: The Better Vitamin C

Amla (Indian Gooseberry)

  • Used traditionally in Ayurveda for digestion, aging, and glucose balance
  • Contains vitamin C and synergistic plant compounds
  • Less acidic and gentler on the gut
  • My customers love it for kids who react to syrups

Acerola Cherry

  • Naturally high in vitamin C (much more than oranges!)
  • Highly bioavailable—your body actually uses it
  • Ideal for people who want food-based options instead of synthetic pills
  • Still needs slow intro: always start with low doses

I recommend both for those who are acid-intolerant or want to avoid synthetic C altogether.

🌿 My Food-First Philosophy

Whether you're a parent or just building up your own health, these are whole foods I recommend often (and make/eat myself):

  • Bone stock (for babies 6mo+)
  • Bone broth (adults)
  • Kefir milk
  • Sauerkraut
  • Chicken liver pâté
  • Sourdough bread

These foods are gut-friendly, nutrient-dense, and packed with compounds that support long-term immunity. They're not just trendy—they're traditional. This is feeling and being well longer than a fad or trend.

🧴 My Go-To Supplements (When Food Isn’t Enough)

When whole food isn’t accessible—or when you just need added support—I recommend these gentle, natural products:

  • Ayo! Organics Liquid Probiotics
  • Ayo! Kids Multivitamin Gummies
  • Liquid Health Ionic Zinc
  • Mary Ruth’s Organic Infant & Kids Multivitamin Drops
  • Mary Ruth’s Liquid Morning Multivitamin (Raspberry)

I’ve worked with families across all age groups. These products are easy to absorb, gentle on digestion, and safe for long-term use. Added BONUS: anything that's suitable for ages younger than you is SAFE FOR YOU. Adults can take vitamins for infants and kids, I would even go as far as recommend it if normal adult bottles are giving you uncomfortable symptoms.

🌱 Supplements Can Help—But Food Will Always Lead

Supplements are support—not shortcuts. Food heals your gut. And when your gut works, so does your immunity. We don't get unhealthy overnight, the same is true for healing and staying healthy. Daily habits, while it's not everything is the FOUNDATION of how everything else will work. Medicines and doctors do a much better job when we handle the basic food and nutrition part.

But if you or your child can’t tolerate certain vitamins, or you’re burned out trying to cook every meal from scratch… you deserve OTHER OPTIONS that won’t set you back.
